Leisure Services Ltd have recently helped to keep the country's oldest outdoor swimming pool from closure by refurbishing
the Fellows' Bathing Pool at Christ's College, Cambridge.Famous alumni from Charles Darwin to comedian Sacha Baron Cohen are believed to have swum in the pool.
It is believed the pool is the oldest in the country after recently discovered records showed it has been around since at least 1699. Despite being in continuous use, the pool gradually slipped into decline over the past 20 years. The water had become murky and alternative uses, including an ornamental pool, were suggested.
Before renovation, the pool was fed by Hobson's Conduit; now the pool is fed by water from the mains, filtered and kept clear and sparkling by a moving robot. It has now been renamed the Malcolm Bowie Bathing Pool in honour of the Master of Christ's from 2002 to 2006.
